On February 3rd 2007 Alenka Gotar with the song “The flower from the South”won the EMA 2007 song festival, the Slovenian pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki.

After the primary school and musical school, where she was taking piano and guitar lessons, she entered the Poljane high school in Ljubljana. Parallelly she had also been training solo singing with the prof. Marcos Bajuk at the Music and ballet school in Ljubljana. In 1996 she graduated from both high schools and was immediately accepted by the Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel in Switzerland to study solo singing. In 1999 prof. Lilian Sukis invited her to Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, where she graduated in 2000. At Mozarteum she continued her studies in solo singing and opera performance with prof. Sukis. She was also taking lessons from Mrs. Maja Sunari-Biankini in Rome and prof. Marjana Lipovšek and Alfred Burgstaller.

Alenka Gotar is a well known concert solo singer and performed with various orchestras and chamber music orchestras in Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Croatia and Scandinavia. Her repertory consists of works from earlier baroque to the most recent musical works (in 2000 she was working with one of the most distinguished composers of our time, Gyorgy Kurtag, for the Swiss Radio DRS 3). She was engaged as a member of the Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet in Ljubljana in the season 2004/2005. Now she is working on a free-lance basis as a guest in the SNG Opera and Ballet in Ljubljana and as a teacher of singing.

3rd prize of international singing contest Ferruccio Tagliavini in Deutschlandberg, Austria.
2003
At the world’s biggest contest for opera singers, Hans Gabor Gesangswettbewerb Belvedere in Vienna, she won the special prize of Klagenfurt’s Theatre for the world’s best stage personality.
2007
